the gumbi room is a brand of hand-crafted, genuine leather goods that are all produced locally. We believe that it doesn't get any lekkerder than local and that quality and class should also be affordable.

Our name originates from spicing up the isiXhosa word igumbi and its English translation, room. It's like chai tea or a pizza pie - something made that much better by saying the name twice!

Based in Cape Town, South Africa, the gumbi room is the start of a young industrial design student's dream of establishing a product house - a room with many rooms.

the gumbi room is not intended to stop at bags, purses and clutches, but will extend to other accessories, clothing, lighting and furniture. With this expansion, the gumbi room will provide local artisans with secure employment and offer employees the opportunity to develop their skills.
